China Central Television reported that the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA) exercises east of the notional median dividing line in the Taiwan Strait will now become regular, reports TASS.
In addition, on August 7, China extended the duration of exercises in the water area and airspace around Taiwan for another day. According to data previously released by the PRC Ministry of Defense, the exercises were to last three days and end on August 7 at 12:00 local time (07:00 Moscow time), informs agency.
Formerly PLA start large-scale military exercises with live firing in six areas around Taiwan. The Chinese newspaper Global Times reported that J-20 and J-11 fighter jets, H-6K strategic bombers, project 052D destroyers, and 056A corvettes will take part in the exercises.
On the evening of August 2, the Chinese army conducted a long-range live firing exercise in the Taiwan Strait, and missile tests were conducted in the waters of the eastern part of the island. The PLA announced the maneuvers after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s plane landed in Taiwan.
China has previously urged Pelosi to cancel a visit to the island. However, the American politician went to Taiwan anyway, to testify there, she said, of US support for democracy. The White House said that Pelosi’s trip does not contradict the “one China” policy, which is also followed by the United States. On August 3, the politician left the island nation.
