PRC: Elections show that Taiwan’s Democratic Party does not represent public opinion
The official representative of the Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China for Taiwan Affairs, Chen Binhua, made a statement according to which Beijing will resolutely oppose actions aimed at achieving Taiwan independence, as well as interference by external forces.
The senior official noted that China will adhere to the “1992 Consensus”, which embodies the “one China” principle. Beijing plans to continue to resolutely oppose separatist actions aimed at achieving Taiwan’s independence, Chen Binhua said, commenting on the results of the completed elections on the island.
Pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party Chairman Lai Qingde was voted as Taiwan’s new chief executive with 40.05% of the vote.
