China urges Russia to investigate incident with Chinese citizens at border

Several Chinese citizens were denied entry to Russia after a four-hour interrogation at the Russian-Kazakh border, and the Chinese embassy urged Moscow to investigate the incident and provide a response. To the relevant statement of the Chinese Embassy in WeChat drew Bloomberg attention.
According to Beijing, the incident occurred on July 29, when five Chinese citizens were unable to enter Russia from Kazakhstan. At the checkpoint, according to the embassy, people were interrogated for four hours and had their tourist visas revoked.
“The brutal and excessive law enforcement actions of Russia in connection with this incident have seriously violated the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens,” the embassy said in a statement.
The department made a presentation to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the FSB and the border service. They also demanded that Moscow explain the cause of the incident and take measures to prevent such incidents from recurring. Russia needs to investigate and provide a “satisfactory response” to the Chinese side, the embassy added.
China made the announcement just days after the video was posted on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, according to Bloomberg. The author of the video, as noted, spoke about the “tests” at the Russian-Kazakh border checkpoint.
