China urged to begin the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine with the search for “root causes”

China is in favor of peace talks on Ukraine and supports Europe’s position on the need to find the root causes of the conflict. This statement was made by China’s Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui following a meeting with German Foreign Ministry spokesman Andreas Michaelis.

“All parties need to start with themselves and create favorable conditions for the resumption of peace talks by building mutual trust. China supports European countries to start from the root causes of the crisis <...> and make efforts for long-term stability on the European continent”, – says in a message from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Based on the results of the trip to Kyiv, Li Hui pointed outthat there is no panacea for resolving the conflict in Ukraine. In his opinion, all parties should create conditions for the cessation of hostilities and the holding of peace talks.

On May 12, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that Li Hui would visit Ukraine, Russia, Poland, France and Germany from May 15. In late April, the former Chinese ambassador to Russia led a Chinese delegation to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

May 26 Li Hui will visit Moscow, according to the Chinese Embassy in Russia. Earlier, the visit of the Chinese Special Representative was also announced in the Russian Foreign Ministry. They did not specify who Li Hui plans to meet in Moscow.

The day before, May 24, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov expelled the possibility of freezing the conflict in Ukraine. Russia is considering only the option of completing the special operation, subject to the achievement of all previously announced goals, he stressed.

February 24, the anniversary of the start of the special operation, China introduced its plan to get out of the Ukrainian conflict, which includes 12 points, including respect for the sovereignty of all countries, the cessation of hostilities, the start of peace negotiations, etc. Western countries and the Ukrainian authorities rejected this plan.
