China says there is no panacea to resolve the conflict in Ukraine

There is no universal means of resolving the Ukrainian conflict; for this, all parties need to create conditions for the cessation of hostilities. This statement was made by China’s Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui following a trip to Kyiv on May 16-17.

“There is no panacea for overcoming the crisis, all parties need to start with themselves, accumulate mutual trust, create conditions for ending the war and peace negotiations,” leads his words to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

It is noted that China is ready to contribute to the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, a ceasefire in Ukraine and the establishment of peace.

During his visit to Kyiv on May 16-17, Li Hui met with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and representatives of other departments. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the parties exchanged views on the political settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and the development of Chinese-Ukrainian relations.

On May 18, in an interview with the Japanese newspaper Asahi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova statedthat the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is impossible without the participation of China. According to her, a recent telephone conversation between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Vladimir Zelensky took place in a “constructive and warm atmosphere” and lasted almost an hour. Dzheppar added that the vision of the situation from the position of Kyiv was conveyed to the Chinese leader.

Formerly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China informedthat Hui will visit Ukraine, Russia, Poland, France and Germany in May. At the Russian Foreign Ministry clarifiedthat the visit of the Chinese special envoy to Moscow is expected at the end of the month.

April 26 Xi Jinping spent telephone conversation with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. During the conversation, the Chinese leader noted that Beijing’s position on the conflict in Ukraine is “to promote reconciliation and negotiations.” He emphasized that dialogue and negotiations are the only way out of the crisis.

February 24, the anniversary of the start of the special operation, China introduced its plan to get out of the Ukrainian conflict, which includes 12 points, including respect for the sovereignty of all countries, the cessation of hostilities, the start of peace negotiations, etc. Western countries and the Ukrainian authorities rejected this plan.
