China’s General Administration of Customs announced a ban on the import of all seafood from Japan, due to the fact that from August 24, it began dumping accumulated water into the Pacific Ocean, which cooled the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant, Xinhua news agency reports. Beijing also pledged to “dynamically adjust relevant regulatory measures as necessary to prevent the health and food safety risks of discharging water contaminated with nuclear elements.”
Nuclear power plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCO) has pledged to compensate Japanese manufacturers for damages incurred as a result of a “foreign government” export ban, AP reports.
