The Chinese military has conducted military exercises around the island of Taiwan in response to the recent escalation by the United States, said Shi Yi, spokesman for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Eastern Combat Command Zone. social networks WeChat, transmits “RIA News”.
On December 25, the People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Combat Command organized a joint patrol of various branches and branches of the armed forces and practical military exercises in the sea and air space around the island of Taiwan, Shi Yi said.
The troops will continue to take decisive action to protect China’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, he said.
Earlier this week, the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed disagreement with the US defense budget over the Taiwan provisions. The department called the law provocative, as it ignores the facts and at the same time allows “interference in the internal affairs” of China and “attacks and vilification” of the Communist Party. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the document contains “a large number of negative provisions” related to Taiwan, which violates the “one China” principle and previously signed joint Chinese-American communiqués. The Chinese Foreign Ministry demanded that the US stop trying to contain China through the Taiwan issue.
Last week, the Taiwan Defense Ministry fixed approaching the island of 29 aircraft and three ships of the Chinese army. According to the Taiwanese military, the maneuvers included 18 H-6 strategic bombers, as well as one J-11 fighter and two Y-8 anti-submarine aircraft. The Taiwan Defense Ministry said it used combat aircraft, ships and ground-based missile systems for surveillance and response. On December 12, the Taiwanese military also reported eight aircraft and four ships that continued to be near Taiwan.
The situation in Taiwan escalated after the visit of Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to the island in early August 2022. The Chinese Foreign Ministry protested, and China also announced military exercises in Taiwan waters. Later, a delegation of US congressmen and Republican Senator Marsha Blackbear visited the island. The PRC said that such steps violate the “one China” principle.
China considers Taiwan to be its province, so the PRC government opposes any contacts between the island’s administration and countries with which Beijing has diplomatic relations. China has repeatedly noted that it will take “serious measures” to protect the sovereignty of the country and its territorial integrity.
