The US administration’s decision to sell another batch of weapons to Taiwan undermines relations between Washington and Beijing and the peace in the Taiwan Strait, said Liu Pengyu, spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Washington.
Earlier, the US State Department approved the sale of arms worth $1.1 billion to Taipei.
The Chinese diplomat accused the Americans of interfering in China’s internal affairs, undermining its sovereignty, endangering its interests and security, as well as bilateral relations, and “wrong signals” to Taiwan.
Liu Pengyu urged Washington to fulfill its obligations under the joint Chinese-American communiqués, adhere to the “one China principle”, stop deliveries of weapons to Taipei and cut off all contacts in the field of military and military-technical cooperation.
He also announced Beijing’s plans to “take legitimate and necessary retaliatory measures.”
Taiwan plans to supply $355 million worth of anti-ship missiles, $85.6 million worth of air-to-air missiles, and extend its radar contract for $665.4 million, the Pentagon said earlier.
