The price of chewing gum has increased by more than 22% since March 2022, making it the most expensive product in a year of Western sanctions. This follows from the data of the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), writes RBC.

The rise in price was a record for the last ten years. The average price of a pack of chewing gum has increased by 7 rubles since March last year. – up to 39 rubles. (by 22.3%). At the same time, according to Rosstat, the price of gum has grown in the past, but such an increase did not exceed 3 rubles.

Roman Shuvaev, executive director of the K-Artel confectionery factory producing Turbo chewing gum, called the anti-Russian sanctions the main reason for the strong growth. This also affected the packaging, where components were supplied less, such as cardboard, paper, printing ink, etc. It also affected the base of the gum – synthetic components such as synthetic rubber.

Aleksey Popovichev, executive director of the Rusbrand association, agreed with Shuvaev, but he also noted the complexity of supply chains. According to Popovichev, despite the attempts of manufacturers to restrain the rise in prices, this growth still affects the consumer.
