CentralAsia: China executes officials involved in coal theft from Mongolia

China executed officials who were involved in the theft of coal from Mongolia. About it informs Central Asia portal.

“The Chinese side executed the officials involved in the theft of this coal, the Chinese side sent the names of the Mongolian politicians involved in this case to the Prime Minister [Монголии] Luvsannamsrayn Oyuun-Erdene,” the message says.

For the second day in a row, protests have erupted in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar amid reports of the theft of coal worth 60 trillion tugriks ($1.8 billion). Local media wrote that the amount of coal exported from Mongolia was different from what China received. As a result, several thousand people took to the streets demanding to name the perpetrators and bring them to justice, informs edition of News.mn.

It is noted that the nature of the protests is gradually becoming more violent. According to News.mn, four people were injured during the rallies. In addition, the protesters broke in to the government building.

“Today, about 15 officials are under investigation. Representatives of the government, ministries and departments are being investigated based on a complaint from the government,” said the head of the secretariat of the government of Mongolia and the leader of the ruling Mongolian People’s Party, Dashzegviin Amarbayasgalan (quote according to TASS).

Mongolian authorities call on protesters to dialogue. So, they created a working group to discuss the situation with disgruntled citizens. In the same time, informs Eagle TV channel, the governor of the capital of Mongolia and the mayor of the city of Ulaanbaatar, Dolgorsurengiin Sumyaabazar, issued a decree on the forceful dispersal of protesters. Citizens of the country were urged to stop the rallies.
