Central banks bought a record amount of gold in the third quarter

By data World Gold Council, in the third quarter of 2022, global central banks purchased 399.3 tons of gold, up 115% from the previous quarter. This was the largest quarterly purchase of the precious metal by central banks since 2000. The previous record, set in the third quarter of 2018, was almost two times lower – 241 tons. The total volume of purchases since the beginning of the year (673.01 tons) also exceeds the figures for the same periods of previous years, starting from 1967.

The largest buyers of gold in the third quarter were the central banks of Turkey, Uzbekistan and Qatar.
