The Central Election Commission recommended that the Russian anthem be played at regional election commissions when polling stations open. The corresponding resolution was adopted by the CEC at today’s meeting, August 24. The head of the CEC, Ella Pamfilova, is convinced that the performance of the anthem will emphasize “the special significance of the will of citizens.”
At the meeting, Ms. Pamfilova said that the Central Election Commission and its colleagues in the regions “became a good tradition to open the decisive, final stage of election campaigns with the performance of the anthem.” “Many of them, in informal communication, expressed a desire to make this a widespread tradition of election commissions at all levels. This idea is also supported by the voters,” says the head of the CEC (TASS quote).
VTsIOM survey, held August 12, showed that the national anthem of Russia is proud of 70% of respondents. 9% of respondents expressed indifference, 2% – irritation, 1% – antipathy. 1,600 Russians took part in the survey.
On September 9-11, direct elections of heads of 14 regions, as well as deputies of six legislative assemblies of subjects and 12 representative bodies of regional capitals, will be held in Russia. In total, about 4,700 election campaigns will take place in Russia during this period. At a meeting with Vladimir Putin on August 19, Ella Pamfilova saidthat the main task of the CEC is to “increase confidence” in elections and the electoral system.
