The Central Election Commission (CEC) has completed verification of signatures in support of the nomination of Vladimir Putin in the presidential elections, said Deputy Chairman of the Russian Central Election Commission Nikolai Bulaev. He noted that the signatures were of “high quality”; shortcomings were identified in several dozen signatures. This allows consideration of the candidate’s registration.

“60 thousand signatures selected at random were checked. Today there was a meeting of the working group, where the protocol based on the results of the inspection was adopted and sent to Putin’s election headquarters,” Mr. Bulaev told reporters (quoted from “Interfax”).

Mr. Putin’s headquarters sent the signatures to the Central Election Commission at the beginning of the week. The current president runs for election as a self-nominated candidate. In total, 315 thousand signatures from 89 regions were submitted to the CEC. By law, a self-nominee must provide from 300 thousand to 315 thousand signatures. The elections will take place March 15–17.
