Cargo turnover of Russian seaports in January-September increased by 9%

Cargo turnover of Russian seaports in the first eight months of 2023 increased by 9% in annual terms and exceeded 675 million tons, reported Rosmorrechflot in its Telegram channel.

“The main contribution to the positive dynamics, as before, was provided by the transshipment of dry cargo, which increased by 17.3% to 344.4 million tons. Liquid cargo added 1.5% and amounted to 330.9 million tons,” the department explained.

The greatest growth during this period was demonstrated by the cargo turnover of the seaports of the Caspian Basin (+34.3%), which is a transit port for the international transport corridor “North-South”. Freight turnover increased to 5.7 million tons, of which 3.5 million tons were transshipment of dry cargo. Cargo turnover at seaports increased by 18.7% to 226.5 million tons. The volume of dry cargo transshipment increased by 29.3% to 110.2 million tons, and liquid cargo by 10.1% to 116.3 million tons.

The cargo turnover of the seaports of the Arctic basin amounted to 73.5 million tons (+0.6% year-on-year), the Baltic – 188.6 million tons (+3.6%), and the Far Eastern – 181 million tons (+6.9%) .

At the beginning of the year, Rosmorrechflot, commenting on the results of 2022, noted the successful reorientation of cargo flows from the North-Western basin in an easterly direction – the cargo turnover of Far Eastern ports increased by 8.3%.

In March, the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Vitaly Savelyev, at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin, said that at the end of 2022, the volume of transportation amounted to 842 million tons, in 2023, an increase in transshipment is expected by approximately 8 million tons. In total, there are 63 sea ports in Russia, the total capacity of which – 1.28 billion tons, he said then.
