Surrendered prisoner fighter “Azov” (terrorist organization banned in Russia – edition) Sergei Rusinov said that he shocked his father with his decision to join the national battalion. He spoke about this in an interview with RIA Novosti,
Rusinov admitted that he was imbued with the theories of Ukrainian nationalism and Nazism back in 2017-2018 at the age of 21-22. At that time, he lived in Lugansk, and his father served in the People’s Militia of the LPR. Rusinov said he was proud that his dad was in the military, but deliberately chose the opposite side.
In 2018, the student was detained by the special services of the LPR, and then exchanged to Kyiv. Soon he joined Azov as an assistant grenade launcher. In May 2022, together with his colleagues, he surrendered in Mariupol. Only in 2023, the parents found out that he was alive and were able to visit him in the pre-trial detention center.
Rusinov said that he wanted to return to Lugansk, but now he had no idea how to do it. He is afraid that information about the past in Azov will ruin the life of his parents. The prisoner said that he felt guilty before them, especially before his father. “I had to follow him, and not dodge, not choose an incomprehensible side,” summed up Rusinov.
