Canadian Prime Minister announces new sanctions against Russian organizations

Ottawa will impose sanctions against 29 Russian organizations, including those associated with the armed forces and the nuclear sector of the Russian Federation. About this at the Ukrainian forum “Crimean Platform” declared Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

“Canada announces new sanctions against four individuals and 29 entities related to the Russian military, industrial, financial and nuclear sectors,” said he, speaking at the forum via video link (quote according to TASS).

At the same time, Trudeau did not name the names of organizations and the names of individuals against whom restrictions will be introduced. On the website of the Government of Canada, in the section on sanctions against Russia, the last messages about the restrictions were made on August 17.

August 18 Government of Canada announcedthat the country expanded the list of sanctions against Russia to include 15 individuals “in response to a growing level of human rights violations.” The Moscow City Court, Basmanny and Khamovnichesky district courts also fell under sanctions. Ottawa motivated the inclusion of courts in the sanctions list by the fact that they considered some high-profile cases against representatives of the Russian opposition. The Russians against whom sanctions are imposed are in the service of the government, the judiciary and the Investigative Committee, the Canadian government added.

In total, since 2014, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 2,600 individuals and legal entities in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova, involved, according to Ottawa, in violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
