Canadian television channel CTV, citing Canadian Defense Ministry spokeswoman Jessica Lamirande, said that Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLA) fighter jets have frequently intercepted a Canadian CP-140 Aurora patrol aircraft that was performing surveillance flights in recent weeks.
“During the mission to enforce sanctions against the DPRK, our aircraft carried out surveillance. It was frequently intercepted by Chinese warplanes,” Lamirande said.
She clarified that the Canadian observation aircraft took off from the Japanese island of Okinawa, and last week returned to the Canadian province of British Columbia.
