After the temporary removal of the units for the Nord Stream gas pipeline from sanctions, the Canadian authorities resumed the restrictions. In the government of the North American country, the restoration of sanctions was explained by the fact that their suspension no longer “serves the original purpose.”
“Putin demonstrated that it was never his intention to restore the full operation of Nord Stream 1, and the pipeline itself was disabled, which is why the Canadian government decided to cancel the temporary exemption from sanctions that allowed the return to Germany of turbines repaired at Siemens plant in Montreal,” said Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly and Minister of Natural Resources Jonathan Williams in a joint statement (its text was published on Ms. Joly’s Twitter).
In July, Kommersant learned that Canada had issued a license to Siemens Energy, which allows maintain equipment for Gazprom – it was supposed to operate until the end of 2024. Later, as Kommersant found out, the Canadian side handed over Gazprom an export license allowing the transportation of turbines for Nord Stream.
