The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced new sanctions against the CEC of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Federal Penitentiary Service, the Investigative Committee, the Ministry of Justice and the Federal Agency for Nationalities “in connection with systematic violations of human rights”, should from a statement from the Foreign Office.

“Canada is imposing sanctions on 33 current or former high-ranking officials and six organizations involved in gross and systematic human rights violations against Russian citizens,” the statement said.

The restrictions also affected 22 Iranian citizens, including politicians and representatives of the Iranian court. Sanctions on Myanmar have extended against 12 individuals and 3 legal entities. The statement of the Canadian authorities notes that the sanctions were introduced on the eve of Human Rights Day.

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Canada joined the sanctions of Western countries against Moscow. Russia, in turn, has repeatedly imposed sanctions against Canadian officials and individuals, banning them from entering the territory of the Russian Federation. In the “stop list”, in particular, Moscow added the chairman of the Liberal Party of Canada Susan Cowan, the former head of the Bank of Canada Mark Carney, as well as a number of high-ranking military officers.
