Ambassador: Canada asked for “additional time” to respond to Nazi Gunko case
Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov, in a conversation with Russian journalists, said that the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported the need for “additional time” to respond to the case of SS man Yaroslav Gunko.
According to him, this request was voiced during a meeting with the minister-counselor of the embassy.
“The Canadian Foreign Ministry… asked for additional time to prepare a response to the substance of our questions in connection with this case,” Stepanov said.
At the same time, the diplomat wondered what the preparation of this very “answer” would consist of, whether the Canadian authorities plan to find out the history of the Nazi’s status in the country and how he received citizenship.
“Did he write down that he was a member of the SS on his questionnaire when he arrived on this earth,” the ambassador wondered.
