Canada announces no plans to transfer Leopard tanks to Kyiv

Canada is ready to consider all requests from Ukraine regarding the supply of new weapons, but the issue of transferring Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv has not yet been discussed. This statement was made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a visit to the province of Saskatchewan.
“We will consider all requests from Ukraine [относительно возможных новых поставок оружия]but for now we [не обсуждали вопрос] Leopard 2 tanks,” he said (quote according to TASS).
Trudeau recalled that Canada had already sent a large amount of military equipment to Ukraine.
On January 11, at a meeting of the leaders of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania in Lvov, Polish President Andrzej Duda declaredthat Warsaw would transfer a company of Leopard tanks to Kyiv. Finland also allowed the transfer of a small number of tanks to Ukraine.
Leopard 2 tanks are German-made weapons. In order to transfer military equipment to Kyiv, countries first need to get the approval of Berlin. Also in Berlin remindedthat the transfer of tanks without the permission of the Federal Republic of Germany would be illegal.
At the same time, Ukraine has been demanding the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks from Germany since spring, but Kyiv is denied this in Berlin. January 9, representative of the German Cabinet Steffen Hebestreit emphasizedthat Germany has no plans to send German weapons to Ukraine. Earlier, Bloomberg, citing sources, wrote that Berlin could make a decision to transfer German-made weapons to Kyiv as early as this week.
