Canada announces new sanctions against Iran

A message appeared on the website of the Canadian government that the country is imposing sanctions on 25 individuals and nine legal entities of Iran.
The sanctions were reportedly a response to gross and, in particular, systematic violations of human rights. The government recalled the death of Mahsa Amini, detained by the Iranian morality police.
Mahsa Amini was detained in Tehran for wearing the wrong hijab. On September 16, she died of a heart attack after four days in a coma. The country’s police explained the death of the Iranian woman as an “accident”, but the media claimed that she was tortured. Soon mass protests began in Iran, in which women primarily take part.
A new wave of protests began after a teenage girl was raped by a police officer. Weapons were used against the protesters, killing more than 50 civilians and members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
