Cairo summit participants agreed to deliver aid to Gaza

The leaders of the countries participating in the summit in Cairo, at which the Palestinian-Israeli conflict was discussed, reached an agreement on the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, Egyptian presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy told Al Arabiya TV channel.
He noted that the meeting in Egypt came to “an agreement on the delivery of aid to Gaza,” while “a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the extent of condemnation were a point of contention.” According to Fahmy, the summit was attended by countries that wanted to condemn only one side of the conflict.
October 21 summit in Cairo ended without the participants adopting a joint final statement. As Al Arabiya TV channel reported, at the meeting, Arab leaders condemned the Israeli bombing of the sector, and European representatives also spoke out for the protection of civilians. Alone, in the absence of Israel at the summit and “high-ranking American officials, no agreement was reached to curb the violence,” the TV channel reported.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi reported, which proposed that leaders reach an agreement to “end the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and restore a path to peace between Israel and the Palestinians.” He said the road map’s goals included delivering aid to Gaza and agreeing to a ceasefire. The Egyptian head of state also reiterated Egypt’s opposition to the “forced displacement” of civilians from the Gaza Strip and said that the Palestinian people “refuse to leave their land, even if it is under occupation.”
On October 7, the Palestinian group Hamas attacked Israel. Against the backdrop of an attack by militants, the army of the Jewish state launched Operation Iron Swords, the country went into a state of war and began launching massive airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. Egypt has proposed holding a summit on the situation in Gaza on October 15. At the time, the President’s Office said that Cairo rejected any plans to displace Palestinians or “attempts to eliminate the Palestinian issue at the expense of neighboring countries.”
According to the latest data, over 5,500 people have died as a result of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, most of them Palestinians.
