The most popular digital technologies among large and medium-sized organizations in 2022 were methods of collecting, processing and analyzing big data (DB), as well as cloud services. According to the Institute for Statistical Research and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK), based on Rosstat data, these technologies are used by 30.4% and 28.9% of companies, respectively. In third place are data centers (16.5%), followed by digital platforms (14.9%) and geographic information systems (13%).

The named top three technologies also lead in terms of distribution dynamics: the frequency of use of database collection, processing and analysis increased by 4.6 percentage points (pp) by 2021, cloud services – by 1.8 points, data processing centers – by 2 ,5 points. These solutions are interconnected and their applicability is growing simultaneously, experts say.

At the same time, judging by the ISSEK review, the intensity of use of a number of digital technologies has decreased. For example, in 2022, only 10% of Russian organizations used the Internet of Things (minus 3.7 p.p. by 2021), RFID technologies (radio frequency identification technology) – 9.6% (minus 2.2 p.p. ), industrial robots and automated lines – 2.6% (minus 1.8 p.p.). The first reason is the departure of many foreign manufacturers from the Russian market and the inability to purchase software and hardware for these technologies, ISSEK notes. The second is the suspension of work in the Russian Federation by companies with foreign participation that were active users of such digital solutions. At the same time, the not so significant drop in indicators suggests rather that the Russian economy is compensating for technological losses, according to ISSEK.

The frequency with which digital technologies are used largely depends on the size of organizations. Large companies are leaders in their use, as they have large resources for deploying IT infrastructure. The biggest difference here is recorded in relation to the use of industrial robots. This technology is used by 11.6% of organizations with more than 250 employees, 6.9% of companies with 100 to 250 people, and only 1.3% of enterprises with up to 100 people. Also, the frequency of use of digital technologies varies by industry – however, big data technologies and cloud services are in demand in almost all.
