A German citizen who worked for the Bundeswehr was detained for spying for the Russian Federation

The German Prosecutor General’s Office announced on Wednesday the detention of a German citizen who worked in a structure related to the Bundeswehr. He was detained on suspicion of spying for Russia, TASS writes.

Bild edition addsthat Thomas H. since May 2023, on his own initiative, contacted the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Bonn and the Russian Embassy in Berlin several times and offered cooperation.

He was detained in the city of Koblenz in western Germany. According to investigators, he handed over to the authorities of the Russian Federation the information he received in the Bundeswehr.

The suspect works for the Federal Office for Equipment and Information Technology of the German Army. A warrant for his arrest was issued on 27 July. Now H. is in custody, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
