The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, refused to answer the question about the dates and timing of the Ukrainian counteroffensive. His interview was published on April 17 in NV. He said he did not want to reveal Ukraine’s intentions to Russian forces and added that a counteroffensive would be “amazing.”
Budanov also said that Russia has switched to a strategic defensive operation on almost the entire front in order to prevent the Armed Forces of Ukraine from regaining control of the territory.
When journalists reminded him of his forecast for 2022, according to which the Ukrainian Armed Forces would enter Crimea in the spring of 2023, Budanov replied that he still had time. He also stressed that all his predictions came true and everything is on schedule.
“Unfortunately, I can’t answer the question. [о деталях контрнаступления]: not because I don’t know, but because it would be wildness, if I do it now, I will reveal the plan to the Russians. It will be amazing,” he said.
