British Prime Minister Candidate Sunak Urges Putin to Be Banned from G20 Summit

Candidate for British Prime Minister, former Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak called for Russian President Vladimir Putin not to be allowed to attend the meeting of the G20 leaders, which will be held in Bali on November 15-16. About it informs Sky News TV channel, citing Sunak’s representative.
“We need to send a strong signal to Putin that there will be no place for him at the G20 table until he ends his illegal war in Ukraine,” the channel quoted a spokesman for the prime minister candidate as saying.
He also noted that the G20 had a collective responsibility to expose Putin’s “heinous behavior”.
This is how Sunak reacted to statement Indonesian President Joko Widodo that Vladimir Putin will attend the G20 summit. Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov also confirmed that Putin would take part in the summit, but it was not known in what format – in person or in absentia.
This year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is also expected to attend the meeting. In April, Widodo (Indonesia presides over the association) invited the Ukrainian leader to an event. In August, Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Jose Tavares said that Indonesia was interested in organizing a meeting between the two presidents. The day before, Peskov ruled out a meeting between Putin and Zelensky, saying that “there are no prerequisites for this.”
After the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, a number of Western countries included in the G20 even called for Russia to be excluded from the association, but the rest of the G20 members opposed such a measure.
