British media told how Russia knows the vulnerabilities of Ukraine

Vulnerabilities in Ukraine’s energy sector have been known to Russia since the days of the USSR, writes the British newspaper Time.
Newspaper columnist Ciara Nugent notes that Ukraine, like other former republics of the USSR, received a developed and extensive energy supply network thanks to Soviet engineers. According to her, after independence, despite a serious deterioration in the quality of service due to insufficient investment, district heating is still the majority of heat generation in Estonia, Lithuania and Slovakia.
“In Ukraine, as of 2021, 53 percent of urban households still relied on it,” the author of the article writes, noting that the energy structure has become Ukraine’s “Achilles heel”. In her opinion, the Russian Armed Forces are well aware of the heat supply system created in Ukraine during the Soviet era.
On October 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a massive strike with precision-guided weapons on Ukrainian infrastructure. He accused Ukraine of the terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge, and said that Kyiv has put itself on a par with the most odious terrorist groups. Putin also said that it was simply impossible to leave the crimes of the Kyiv regime unanswered. Since then, air raid alerts have been announced in the Ukrainian regions every day, sometimes all over the country. Volodymyr Zelensky said on October 18 that 30% of power plants in Ukraine had been destroyed, leading to massive power outages.
