British law enforcement authorities detained a Russian businessman

The National Crime Agency (NCA) of the UK has detained a 58-year-old Russian businessman on suspicion of committing a number of crimes, including on suspicion of money laundering, reported in the department’s press office.
The NCA clarified that he was detained on December 1 at his “multi-million dollar residence” in London. In addition to money laundering, he is suspected of conspiracy to deceive the Ministry of Internal Affairs and to give false testimony.
In addition to the Russian businessman, two other people were arrested. Among them, a 35-year-old man who worked at the residence – he was detained after leaving the building with a bag in which law enforcement officers found several thousand pounds in cash, and a 39-year-old man. The first is suspected of money laundering and obstructing the actions of an NCA employee, the second is suspected of money laundering and conspiracy to commit fraud. After questioning, they were all released on bail.
RIA Novosti with reference to the Russian Embassy in London reportedthat the diplomatic mission sent a note to the Foreign Office in connection with the detention of the Russian businessman. “The Russian Embassy in London has asked the British authorities for clarification in connection with the information from the National Crime Agency about the alleged detention of a Russian citizen in London,” the Russian Embassy in London said. The diplomatic mission demanded to notify the embassy of the reasons and circumstances of the arrest, the whereabouts and conditions of his detention, as well as to allow consular employees to see him, provide a lawyer and an interpreter.

RBC reportedthat the company denied this information. “We do not know who this news is about, Mr. Fridman is at home, not under arrest. He has nothing to do with this story, ”the Alfa Bank representative quotes the publication.
