British Foreign Minister called the need to support Ukraine painful

Supporting Ukraine is difficult and painful, but without this, the problems facing the UK will only get worse, Foreign Minister James Cleverley said in interview House magazine.

According to Cleverly, the fighting in Ukraine is putting “pressure on countries around the world, but turning away now is not an option.” He said that if Great Britain stops supporting Kyiv, the situation in the country will only get worse. “That is why the UK Government’s position is decisive. We draw the attention of all our international partners to this. It’s hard and it hurts. But if we fail, it will only be more difficult and painful,” the politician said.

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, London expanded the range of supplies to Kyiv. On July 12, responding to criticism from Ukraine over arms supplies, former Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said that the UK is not an Amazon delivery service. He also called on Kyiv to be more grateful for the support it has already received. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak disagreed with Wallace’s words.

Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv and pointed to the growing direct and indirect involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine.
