British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said in an interview with The Economist that his hopes of becoming the next NATO Secretary General will not come true.
“That’s not going to happen,” Wallace said.
He added that the United States wants to extend the powers of the current head of the alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, although he has already announced that he will leave his post in the fall.
The publication notes that Washington allegedly wanted to see Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte as Stoltenberg’s successor, but he refused the offer several times.
