British Defense Minister confirms the destruction of the Challenger 2 in Ukraine

British Defense Minister Grant Shapps confirmed the destruction of the Challenger 2 tank in Ukraine. He stated this on the air of the Sky News channel.

Earlier, a number of foreign media reported on the destruction of a British tank. It was assumed that the tank was destroyed as a result of the work of Russian artillery, this was confirmed by the minister. The crew of six survived. The vehicle was destroyed in combat for the first time since the start of its operation in 1994.

In May, former Defense Secretary Ben Wallace informedthat all the Challenger 2 tanks that London promised to provide to Kyiv arrived in Ukraine. Two months earlier, the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Kingdom, Annabelle Goldie, announced that London would supply Kyiv with shells with depleted uranium for its tanks. She explained the supply of such ammunition by the fact that they are highly effective in defeating modern tanks and armored vehicles.

In addition to British tanks, the destruction of German Leopards was also reported. On June 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that German Leopard tanks and American Bradley infantry fighting vehicles were “burning beautifully.” At the end of July, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu declaredthat the weapons supplied by the West are only prolonging the military conflict.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv and pointed to the growing direct and indirect involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine. The Kremlin said that European and American tanks would burn down just like the rest of Western military equipment.
