Britain imposes sanctions against 12 Russian military leaders

The UK has expanded its sanctions on Russia, imposing restrictions on 12 high-ranking Russian military personnel involved in attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure. Updated list published on the website of the British government.

Under the restrictions were the commander of the 3rd motorized rifle division, Major General Alexei Avdeev, the director of the main computer center of the General Staff, Major General Robert Baranov, the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, Colonel General Sergei Karakaev, the head of the Missile Forces and Artillery, Lieutenant General Mikhail Matveevsky, the head of the unit construction and control of unmanned aerial vehicles of the RF Armed Forces, Major General Alexander Novikov and the commander of the main missile and artillery department of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Nikolai Parshin.

The sanctions list also includes the commander of the 35th Combined Arms Army, Lieutenant General Alexander Sanchik, the commander of the missile forces and artillery of the 1st Tank Army, Colonel Georgy Shuvaev, the commander of the airborne troops, Colonel General Mikhail Teplinskiy, the commander of the 144th Motorized Rifle Division, General Major Oleg Tsokov and the commander of the 4th Panzer Division, Colonel Evgeny Zhuravlev, as well as the chief of staff of the Russian group of troops (forces) “West”, Lieutenant General Mikhail Zusko.

London considers them guilty of destabilizing Ukraine and undermining its territorial integrity and sovereignty. In particular, we are talking about attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, explained in the press office of the government. The measures taken against them include an asset freeze in the UK and a travel ban to the country.

Three Iranian individuals and one company also fell under the sanctions.

Late November UK included 22 more positions were included in the sanctions list, in particular, Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and head of the CEC of the Russian Federation Ella Pamfilova, head of the Federal Penitentiary Service Arkady Gostev, as well as military commissars and 10 heads of Russian regions, including the head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov. The government of the kingdom then said that in total the UK imposed sanctions against more than 1,200 individuals and 120 legal entities. In early November, the UK sanctions list included former executives of a Russian metallurgical company Evraz Alexander Frolov and Alexander Abramov.

End of September London introduced a ban on providing the Russian side with consulting services in the field of IT, architectural, engineering, advertising and auditing services, as well as legal advice on transactions. Then the chairman of the Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, fell under the sanctions. At the end of July, the UK imposed personal sanctions against a third of Russian governors. The sanctions lists included the leaders of 29 of the 85 subjects of the Federation, including those far from the western borders of the country.
