Britain will start training Ukrainian military pilots and marines, transmits Reuters, citing a statement by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
“Sunak’s office announced plans to expand the training of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at sea and in the air, including fighter pilots and marines,” the statement said.
It is specified that thanks to this training, Ukrainian pilots will be able to fly modern NATO-standard fighters in the future. Sunak also announced plans to speed up the delivery of military equipment.
In addition, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will arrive in the UK today to meet with Sunak. This will be his first visit to the UK since the start of Russia’s special operation on February 24, 2022. Zelensky is expected to meet with the military, who is currently undergoing training, and address the British Parliament.
Training of Ukrainian servicemen in the UK began on January 30. Earlier, on January 26, the First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Kingdom Alex Chak informed about plans to deliver Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine at the end of March. Prior to this, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said that London will provide Kyiv 100 armored vehicles, including 50 armored personnel carriers (APCs) Bulldog.
In January, the Kremlin said that the supply of tanks to Kyiv would not change the situation, but would “add problems” for Ukraine. Later, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stressed that the Leopard and Abrams tanks, which the West is going to transfer to Ukraine, will burn down in the same way as the rest of Western military equipment.
