Britain admits using depleted uranium shells for decades

Britain told the UN that it has long used uranium ammunition in conflicts
British Ambassador to the UN Barbara Woodward publicly acknowledged at a meeting of the Security Council that London had been using armor-piercing shells with depleted uranium for decades. Thus, she tried to point out the commonness of this phenomenon, and as a result, the absence of much harm from the use of uranium.
“The Russian representative mentioned depleted uranium. The British Army has been using depleted uranium in its armor-piercing rounds for decades. It is a standard component and has nothing to do with nuclear weapons or capabilities,” Woodward said.
Her words came in response to Nebenzi’s remark that the UK is aware of the long-term consequences for the environment and public health that the use of depleted uranium projectiles is fraught with.
The Russian envoy also noted that British Deputy Defense Minister James Hippie had already “insured” against the inevitable damage, saying that “London is not obliged to monitor the use of ammunition … and has no obligation to eliminate the consequences of their use.”
