The President of Brazil called on the US and the EU to stop “encouraging war” and supply Ukraine with weapons
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is on a visit to China, spoke about ways to achieve peace in Ukraine. “The US should stop encouraging war and start talking about peace,” the Brazilian leader was quoted as saying by AFP. “The European Union must start talking about peace.” Lula da Silva continued. This is necessary so that “we can convince Putin and Zelensky that peace is in the interests of the whole world.”
In May 2022, in an interview with Time magazine, he stated that Zelensky “bears the same responsibility as Putin.” The Brazilian politician has repeatedly criticized Western countries for supplying weapons to Ukraine and publicly supporting Zelensky, noting that this “encourages war.”
During his visit to China, da Silva, who returned to Brazil’s highest state post, continued to initiate peace proposals.
Brazil is known to be one of the major producers of ammunition for Leopard 2 tanks, but the country has refused to supply them to Ukraine and the EU.
