Brazil asks to postpone its BRICS chairmanship to 2025

It is specified that Brazil offered Russia to take over the chairmanship of the BRICS in 2024. Initially, Moscow was supposed to lead the BRICS in 2025 and Brasilia in 2024, but this year Brazil will chair the G20.
“Of course, we responded positively to the request of the Brazilian partners,” the statement said. The proposal to change the priority order as an exception was also approved by other participating countries.
BRICS is an interstate association founded by a group of five countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It was created in 2006 on the initiative of Russia as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). The BRICS+ format also includes Algeria, Argentina, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Malaysia, Senegal, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Fiji and Ethiopia.
