“Everything that happens in American prisons can be called one long torture on the mental state of a person, people are reduced there to the level of cattle. I heard about the harsh conditions of detention of our citizen and talented IT specialist Yevgeny Nikulin, and I consider it my duty in the current conditions to take care of his return to his homeland in the first place, ”he wrote.
Nikulin was detained in Prague in 2016. The extradition to the American side took place only two years later. The US Department of Justice claimed that the Russian hacked into the computer systems of LinkedIn, Dropbox and Formspring and sold the personal data of users. The IT specialist himself pleaded not guilty. In September 2020, his sentenced to seven years and four months in prison.
Viktor Bout spent about 14 years in an American prison. In 2008, he was arrested in Thailand at the request of the United States. The Russian was accused of illegal arms trafficking and supporting terrorism. First, he spent 2.5 years in prison in Thailand, then he was extradited to the United States. In 2012, the court sentenced him to 25 years in prison. The Russian has pleaded not guilty.
On December 8, Bout returned to Russia after the exchange of basketball player Brittney Griner for a Russian between Moscow and Washington. Before that, Greiner and Booth were pardoned, they will not have to serve their sentences in their countries.
