Republika Srpska Bosnia and Herzegovina President Milorad Dodik awarded Russian President Vladimir Putin a medal in absentia on Sunday during a ceremony marking the national holiday.

According to Reuters, the hosts of the ceremony explained that Vladimir Putin is being awarded a medal for “special patriotic care and love for the Republika Srpska” and for strengthening cooperation between friendly states.

“Thanks to the position of Vladimir Putin and the strength of the Russian Federation, the voice and position of the Republika Srpska was heard and respected,” Dodik himself said, adding that he would personally present the medal to the Russian leader during the next meeting.

Recall that the Republika Srpska is an entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina with its capital (de facto) in the city of Banja Luka.
