Borrell recognized the very low defense capability of Europe

Europe is a very wealthy part of the world with a very low defense capability. This statement was made on Monday, May 29, by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
The official called for better coordination between European armies, while admitting that he was not optimistic about the events that could happen in Ukraine during the summer.
Borrell also critically assessed the decision-making system in the EU regarding military assistance to Kyiv. In his words, “everyone prefers butter to guns, but sometimes if you don’t have guns, there won’t be butter.”
Earlier, military expert Jordan Prescott was skeptical about the entry of Eastern European countries into NATO, expressing the opinion that this had a negative impact on the defense capability of the North Atlantic Alliance. Prescott recalled that none of the Eastern European armies unable to upgrade their own arsenals.
In Germany, they critically assess their own defense capability. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in March that if martial law was introduced in Germany, the Bundeswehr would not be able to defend the country, since it had weak material base and insufficient military personnel.
