Borrell said Israel finances Hamas
EU top diplomat Josep Borrell said that the Israeli authorities previously financed the Hamas movement, which controls the Gaza Strip. His words are quoted by Euronews.
According to Borrell, Israel intended to weaken the influence of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, represented by the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Fatah party.
Borrell also expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that at the moment in Israel they are opposed to the idea of the simultaneous existence of two states in the Middle East – Jewish and Arab.
“I insist that Israel, by continuing to reject this decision, has gone so far as to create Hamas itself,” the head of European diplomacy said in a statement.
It was previously reported that the Hamas movement received money from Qatar, and the Israeli authorities, knowing about them, not only did not oppose the financial flows, but even supported them. However, the Israeli authorities deny these statements.
