The European Union will present to the foreign ministers the 12th package of sanctions against Russia on November 13. About it stated EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell in an interview with The Financial Times (FT).

“In order for member states to unanimously support a ban on the diamond trade, some demanded that the G7 provide, shall we say, political cover. This was done, coordination worked, and we will present a package of sanctions [на рассмотрение глав МИД стран ЕС]”, – he said.

It is expected that the 12th package of sanctions will include a ban on the supply of diamonds from Russia, writes FT. According to Borrell, the EU received support on this issue following the meeting of G7 foreign ministers in Japan.

At the end of October, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, following the EU summit in Brussels reported on the preparation of the 12th package of sanctions against Russia, which may also include restrictions on the export of diamonds. These sanctions, she clarified, are being prepared in cooperation with the G7 countries. In early November, von der Leyen addedthat, in addition to new import and export bans, the package will include measures to tighten oil prices.

After the start of the special operation, the EU introduced 11 packages of sanctions against Russia in addition to the existing restrictions. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov saidthat the sanctions pressure on Russia will continue along with attempts to strengthen it, but the country’s economy is ready for this. Commenting on the EU’s plans to limit trade in Russian diamonds, he said that this would lead to the formation of gaps, since the world market is rich in alternatives.
