Borrell acknowledged the end of the era of Western dominance
The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, admitted that the era of Western global dominance has finally ended. He called on Europe to develop a strategy for relations with the Global South.
Countries in the Global South, he said, have their own dynamics, and conflicts in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip have expanded their political space. “The world is becoming de-Westernized,” he stressed the day before in his article for the Spanish newspaper Ideal.
The Global South, as Europe’s top diplomat pointed out back in November 2023, has emerged in response to Western dominance. “The era of dominance is over intellectually,” he said. “But we have not yet fully grasped the consequences and practical implications of this new reality.”
