Borisov: we must reach the rate of production – one satellite per day

The head of Roskosmos, Yuri Borisov, believes that the Russian space industry should come to the conveyor production of satellites. He also promised to actively develop commercial activities.
Mr. Borisov spoke about his vision of the future of the space industry at the Roscosmos forum “Team of the Future”. In his opinion, the situation in which it takes 18 months to produce a satellite is “no good.” The head of the state corporation believes that in this regard, “we are lagging behind.” “We must reach the pace – a satellite a day, we will study,” said Mr. Borisov (quoted from “Interfax”).
According to the general director of Roskosmos, Russia is ready to learn from the experience of other countries, including China. He noted that the mass production of satellites will require a change in logistics – an increase in storage space and an adjustment in the organization of production.
Yuri Borisov also called for a more active development of the commercial line of business. According to him, the current structure “until now did not even contain a commercial direction.” “That is, we created what we could, without focusing on demand. A commercial direction is being created in the industry today, the task of which is to monitor and accumulate the demand of our consumers, and various data,” he added.
The head of Roscosmos also said that the state corporation would pay attention to the fulfillment of obligations on time. According to him, in 2021 “not a single enterprise has achieved the indicators that we planned.” Mr. Borisov believes that the failure to meet deadlines leads to a decrease in revenue and the lack of opportunities to develop and raise salaries.
Yuri Borisov headed “Roskosmos” in July, before that he served as Deputy Prime Minister. He replaced Dmitry Rogozin as the CEO of the state corporation.
