Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, while answering questions as part of an investigation into the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, admitted that his government made mistakes.
“Inevitably we did some things wrong,” Johnson said.
He noted that the cabinet did the best it could based on what was known at the time, but there were things that clearly needed to be done differently.
In particular, Johnson admitted that at the beginning of the pandemic, the authorities were not sufficiently concerned about its scale and did not believe the forecasts of scientists. The developed concept of the pandemic did not assume the “total catastrophe” that the coronavirus turned into. Johnson recalled that some people at the time were still thinking about things like a flu pandemic.
