Zelensky fears Western reaction to Zaluzhny’s dismissal – Bloomberg

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky is seriously afraid of a negative reaction from Western partners to the dismissal of the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, writes Bloomberg.

With reference to a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the publication indicates that the dismissal of Zaluzhny could provoke unrest in the army.

It is also noted that technically Zaluzhny’s resignation is not something difficult, and Zelensky can quickly “end the game.” At the same time, Zelensky’s entourage fears that such a signal will be perceived negatively in the West.

Earlier, The Washington Post reported that the Ukrainian authorities informed the US administration of the decision to dismiss the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces Zaluzhny.

Rumors about Zaluzhny’s impending resignation have been circulating for quite some time. On February 2, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Alexey Danilov said that there is no document on Zaluzhny’s resignation yet. Danilov said that in the absence of this document, he does not advise anyone to “raise these waves, start telling that something happened,” since “this will greatly destabilize the situation directly in the army, and this is not good.” According to him, there is nothing to comment on the topic of the possible resignation of the commander in chief.

Earlier, Ukrainian journalist Yuriy Butusov said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky will soon convene a meeting of the headquarters to dismiss the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, as well as to discuss his possible successor.

US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland urgently left for Kyiv. British expert Alexander Mercouris suggested that the reason for her emergency trip to Ukraine could be the escalation of the conflict between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Zaluzhny. According to the expert, Nuland seemed to have decided that the situation had become so critical that she immediately rushed to Kyiv. Mercouris suggested that now a final order for the dismissal of Zaluzhny, agreed with Washington, should soon appear.
