Bloomberg: EU discusses $60 per barrel oil price ceiling from Russia

EU countries are discussing limiting the price of Russian oil at $60 per barrel, transmits Bloomberg agency, citing sources.
“EU talks on the level of restriction of Russian oil supplies stalled last week. Poland and the Baltic states have demanded a price that will put more pressure on Moscow’s revenues, arguing that the current offers, which have dropped to $62, are too generous. Greece and other shipping countries insisted on a higher price,” the agency notes.
The interlocutors note that the EU is considering introducing a cap price of $60 for Russian fuel in order to reach an agreement on limiting the price of oil from the Russian Federation among the countries of the community and members of the G7.
At the same time, the figure of $60 has not yet been officially proposed to all countries of the bloc. EU ambassadors met on Wednesday for a regularly scheduled weekly session, but the restriction is not on the official agenda. Any agreement at the EU level will require the support of all member states, as well as the support of the G7. One source said the $60 figure would be in the range of the G7.
“RIA Novosti” earlier, citing a source in Brussels reportedthat the EU is likely to set a ceiling on the price of oil from Russia at $62 per barrel, despite calls from Poland and the Baltic states to lower it.
As Reuters reported earlier, Poland has taken an “absolutely uncompromising” position on this issue, proposing to lower the price limit to $30 per barrel. If the restrictions cannot be agreed by next Monday, the tougher measures agreed in May, which would include a ban on sea shipments of Russian crude oil from December 5 and oil products from February 5, will come into force.
