Blinken explains US refusal to approve ceasefire in Gaza

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken explained why the country’s representative in the UN Security Council used the veto when voting for a draft resolution that implied declaring an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
“It’s just going to perpetuate the problem,” Blinken said. He clarified that Hamas is still alive, capable and declares its intention to repeat terrorist attacks against Israel again and again, similar to the one that occurred on October 7.
At the same time, Blinken noted that the United States advocates short-term humanitarian pauses that allow for the exchange of prisoners and the delivery of aid to the enclave. He also stressed that if Hamas had capitulated, the war would have been stopped “tomorrow.”
