Blinken assured Pashinyan of support for the sovereignty and integrity of Armenia

The United States supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia. This was stated by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the Republic Nikol Pashinyan, reports US State Department.

“He told Prime Minister Pashinyan that the United States fully supports the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Armenia,” the report emphasizes.

In addition, Blinken stated Washington’s “deep concern” about the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and added that the United States calls on Azerbaijan to “immediately cease hostilities and return to dialogue.”

According to the Armenian side, in a telephone conversation Pashinyan and Blinken emphasized the inadmissibility of the use of force and noted the need for de-escalation.

On September 19, Azerbaijan began “anti-terrorist measures” in Nagorno-Karabakh to “restorate the constitutional order” of the republic. Yerevan called Baku’s actions “large-scale aggression” and appealed to the UN Security Council, after which France demanded urgently convene a meeting against the backdrop of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov statedthat Moscow sees the possibility of entering into peaceful negotiations to resolve the escalation of the conflict. Russian Foreign Ministry called parties to the conflict around Nagorno-Karabakh “immediately stop the bloodshed” and return to the implementation of trilateral agreements.
