Media: statements by the French President about sending troops to Ukraine only brought harm
French President Emmanuel Macron, with his statements about sending troops to Ukraine, only harmed Kyiv, said Paul Ronzheimer, deputy editor-in-chief of the German publication Bild.
“This debate, initiated at the highest level, is not only dangerous, but also detrimental to Ukraine at the moment, since truly important issues such as ammunition are not discussed,” he wrote.
In his opinion, talk about sending troops is dangerous because it increases the likelihood of escalation. At the same time, Ronzheimer notes that in Russia they already believe that they are in a state of war with the West, so Macron is “playing into the hands of Ukraine’s opponents and distracting from what Kyiv really needs.”
In his opinion, the idea that individual countries can help Ukraine with their own troops without a NATO mandate is also extremely unrealistic. In his opinion, such statements make it even more difficult to supply Ukraine with military equipment, which “due to the Russian offensive, it needs more urgently than ever after the attack.” At the same time, Ronzheimer notes, Kyiv itself is not asking for the dispatch of Western ground forces.
“Macron’s direct attacks on Scholz over the Taurus vote and his willingness to send troops to Ukraine are also intended to distract attention from his own failures,” wrote Bild’s deputy editor-in-chief.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron allowed the sending of troops from European Union countries to Ukraine. He also said that Western countries “intend to do whatever is necessary” to prevent the Russian Federation from winning this conflict. Prior to this, the French leader claimed that Russia was allegedly “acting aggressively” towards Europe, provoking crises on the African continent and creating cybersecurity threats. According to Macron, international institutions need to react if information about the deployment of nuclear weapons in space is confirmed, and the Russian Federation must provide explanations.
